But it's those reasons, and maybe because they were the first team I really cared about, that made the '68 Chiefs my all-time favorite football team. To this day I wish they could have played the Colts in Super Bowl III instead of the Jets. Combing through the lost pieces of the Chiefs history to put this book together revived many of my best memories of football. 1968 wasn't the Chiefs' year, but they got another chance. Kansas City beat their two nemeses, New York and Oakland, in the playoffs the following year, and while they didn't get a shot at Baltimore, it didn't matter.

December 16-Dallas wins the season finale, beating the Chargers, 26-17, at the Cotton Bowl. The Texans finish with an 11-3 record and first place in the AFL West. Don't worry about it. Tommy Brooker, 1962 to his teammates before his game-winning kick in the AFL Championship game December 23-AFL Champs! The Texans win a thrilling double-overtime game against the Houston Oilers and claim their first league championship, 20-17. Tommy Brooker's 25-yard field goal ended what was at that time pro football's longest game at 77 minutes and 54 seconds.
